Transitioning RaeMarie Essentials

In careful consideration during the process of opening my shop and weighing out the cost of inventory, shipping, labeling, packaging, traveling, printing, equipment, postage and among other business developments, (such as time being in the office) there will be a slight price increase in some products, and S&H.

Because of the quality  of my handmade products and quantity  I give to customers, these are necessary changes so that I can continue to better service my customers while being able to take pride and joy creating these wonderful, natural skin and hair care products. (I just love what I do!)

I went through the process of surveying my products in terms of yearly sales analysis, in order to identify who my audience is or will be in the future.  This exercise has enabled me to clearly identify how to grow my product line from this point moving forward.  You can expect to see some really exciting things coming online in 2017!!

As mentioned earlier, and in light of my findings, these small changes will take effect beginning January 1, 2017.  There will be an increase of shipping charges based on USPS costs, and you can expect to minor increases in the cost of products.  This will in no way be an “across the board” change as it is my mission to continue providing extreme value.

Be sure to take advantage of my coupon discount offers and other regularly scheduled promotions.  Doing so will help to offset any of these slight changes in pricing structure, as we continue to do business through Etsy.

Thank you so much for your continued loyalty to Rae Marie Essentials, your support and growth during this journey. If anyone has questions, requests, or concerns always feel free to contact me at or at my website

Don’t forget to get your orders in before the end of year to save a little money before the changes take place on January 1, 2017!

 Raemarie Essentials
In creating these shampoo bars, I had in mind using natural ingredients, and that is what I've done, but sometimes it doesn't matter what you put in your products it's how much you add into making your products. I always do research on the ingredient before using it, and always have in mind what percentages to use.

Ingredients will do what it purported to do without overdoing it. You will be surprised that a little goes a long way in having good ingredients. Well, I do test what I make before adding onto my website. I just want to give you guys a heads up to what I do to achieve in making my shampoo bars since this is a subject of  pH, which is the measure of how acidic or basic the water content is in a product or liquid to determine what is safe or not to use. Well, in my case for skin and hair.

My personal belief is that when using natural ingredients and knowing what you add is also a way to know your product is safe to use, but like I said before, it's how much you use because too much of it may not be a good thing depend on of the ingredient (some may be stronger or pungent than others).

Many may know, that the basic pH for skin's natural pH range is 4.5-5.5 in body products, and pH 6 is good too. And, a safe range for hair is pH 4-7. Keep that in mind. To stop with the guessing whether if using shampoo bars is safe, look at the ingredients. In using soaps for hair, the pH should be around 7-7.5 or higher with soap, but the main thing is that you bring back your hair pH after cleaning. That is to add herbal rinses, deep conditioners, leave-ins, moisturizing conditioners, using hair mask etc. then follow up with a ceramide oil or butter to seal the cuticles.

In my experiment, I have done a pH test with Baking soda with my shampoo bars since I mentioned it as part of describing suggestions to use these bars on RaeMarie Essentials website: Peppermint-Rose and Avocado-Spinach shampoo bars. Both bars came out to be when adding the baking soda with soap water, the pH came out to be a pH of 7.

pH of 7 using baking soda with soap.

This is the pH of Baking Soda alone 8.5-9

I used my peppermint bar a few weeks ago with baking soda adding to my shampoo bar, and the pH came down to a 7 (as 7 being neutral), so your hair will remain the proper pH in using this shampoo bar to avoid dryness and breakage.

Afterward, adding my Moisturizing Avocado Conditioner (pH 5) to bring my hair down to having refined cuticles. I rinsed after a 20 min waiting time. For light conditioning, you can use the Avocado Leave-in

Then, adding in the Natural Hair Ceramide Oil to nourish my hair and keeping the moisture. Finally, using my Everyday Hair Milk to style my hair in the twist out look. I love the results!

You have to be the judge of how this will work for you. I think results depends on the hair type and porosity. Test, test, test, but for the most part since these items are natural handmade ingredient products, I can say it's great for most hair types.

Recently pictured, is the result of using the New African Black Soap Moisturizing Shampoo with my new Everyday Hair Milk with Shea butter creme (Unscented, or Lavender Oats). This liquid shampoo is very cleansing & conditioning.

Thank you as always!

Making Facial Cream

RaeMarie Essentials Skin Care

Well, I'm at it again making a facial product with its essentials: Watermelon Facial Cream, Gentle Facial Wash with Aloe and Cucumber, Aloe Vera-Cucumber Gentle Facial Polish, and Alcohol-free Witch hazel Toner. You, get to choose which facial cream to go with these essentials.

Facial Duo Body Cream is great for the face and body. It is not heavy at all, but it will satisfy the moisture for normal to dry skin. I also have the Watermelon Facial Cream, a facial cream for normal to combination skin. I will tell you guys about each ingredient I used and why I pick in particular the ingredients to formulate with. I also will have a special cream for oily skin, but that will take a bit of research. Well until then, In this segment, I'm only doing the Facial Duo Body Cream as a demo, or shall I say a short movie of what I did to develop this cream. It was fun to do, so let's get started.

This video shows the oil phase and water phase portion.

NOTE:  The video explaining the ingredients was too large to add in, so I will YouTube this segment over again, but in the meantime, this is what I chose and why I chose these particular ingredients.

       OIL PHASE

  • Mango butter-  Natural UV protectant. This butter delivers softness, protection, and regenerates the skin.

  • Emulsifiers- Glyceryl Stearate- give my base a stable emulsion, and a plus, it is a natural glyceryl when making creams/lotions giving moisturizing and conditioning effect on the skin. The co-emulsifier, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate. I used this because is has a silky touch, easy skin penetration, with a soft, smooth after-feel, and nice spreadability, all due to its important origin from olive oil.

  • Virgin Coconut oil- An excellent facial serum altogether. I love adding this to ensure a great product. It has a superior conditioning effect on the skin. A quality skin-feel product, and smells like fresh coconuts.

  • Jojoba oil- A liquid wax feels similar to human sebum keeping your skin supple while locking in moisture. Jojoba oil is an antioxidant and protects you from the damaging effects of free radicals, and it is antibacterial.

  • Polymer- I use a polymer to thicken my cream, adding wonderful skin feel, and airy product.

  • Distilled water- helps with emulsions once added to oils.
  •  Rose water- hydration, toning abilities, soothes the skin, and when used regularly can help make your complexion clearer and smoother and reduce inflammation.

  • Extracts- Quinoa, Oats, Milk, and Bamboo extract. All of these extracts I find to be compatible with the Mango butter since they are all protect the skin moisturizes, tone, and making the skin supple and radiant.

  • Essential oil blend- Lemon citrus, an uplifting, clean scent

Below is my quick take on what I did to complete this facial cream.

Facial Duo Cream. Target: Normal to Dry Skin. Available soon at

In making soap you want takes a little imagination. I envisioned making this soap looking explosive with my first attempt. My first attempt at making these bars was not so easy. I thought it was an easy task until I got to know my soaps. I made soap with melt and pour before, but to do your own design is a different story. I failed horribly making this soap 5 times. I was using three different types of soap, and each one had to be melted because of the timing while pouring before they harden on me.  Let's get into how I made it FINALLY! A little patience helped me get through it. In addition, I wanted to video this, but I didn't have my helpers with me this time, so I did screen shots.

Oatmeal, Goats Milk, and Clear Soaps. I melted them at the same time.
Pictured is 25oz of Oatmeal, 16oz of goats milk, and 10oz of clear melt and pour.

My molds for soap, and I already unmolded the circles(my cherries). I sliced
them accordingly.

I measured out my fragrance. I am using Cherry Almond, and
Oatmeal Milk and Honey (separately).

A little fact about using types of fragrance. The fragrance choice is always something to
look into because of vanilla content that may or may not be involved, but check
to make sure and how much. The clarity of your product is dependent on it.

I am using Cherry Almond, which according to the supplier, it has 7% vanilla content,
and with my design in mind I don't want any browning, so I will add a vanilla stabilizer- this is to prevent browning of your product were fragrance has vanilla content. When choosing vanilla stabilizer make sure it is for the soap you are using; such as vanilla stabilizer for Melt and Pour, not Cold Process Soap.

The rule of thumb with vanilla stabilizer: Use a 2:1 ratio if the vanilla content is below 10%
Use 1:1 ratio if the vanilla content is above 10%. Okay that's great! In my recipe, I've used in my Oatmeal soap around 45ml or 1.5oz of fragrance, so my stabilizer will be at .75oz. To get the ratio, just divide your fragrance load by 2. If you are not familiar with Milliliter to Ounces just Google it. I did. (Lol).  In using a vanilla stabilizer, you must use it within 2 to 15 minutes of using it. Stir in fragrance for 2 minutes, and let it sit for 2 minutes before adding it to your base.
It should look like this once emulsified with the fragrance.

WHEN USING VANILLA STABILIZER- USE A MASK, or STEP BACK, and DO NOT INHALE while squirting this product, because it is STRONG. Don't worry, the instructions in using this product is noting this.

My soaps are melted, and now it's time to pour. I poured my soaps around 130 degrees. They were trying to harden on me, so I kept putting them back in the double boilers while the water was still hot( stove was off).

You must spritz alcohol to remove bubbles. video

Once the Oatmeal set up, not too hard. I pour in the
Goat's Milk Soap

Once the Goat's milk set up, not too hard. I poured in the Clear soap,
and spritz with alcohol to clear bubbles, and working fast spritzing the
cherry slices, so that it would
adhere to the soap, then sprinkled into the
Clear Melt and pour.

I continue with pouring Goat's Milk to top the clear and cherries, then pouring the Oatmeal. The very top I double poured because the soaps were trying to harden on me, so I swirled the two together. Sprinkled with grounded Oats. Voila!

I unmolded the next day. You don't have to, but I did to be sure it is well solidified.

Thank you!
